Night Walk
As I woke up one afternoon after a long sleep in the country side of Serbia where my grandparents lived, I went to go grab my cup of coffee from the kitchen. As I walked down stairs I heard the sound of the television and the laughter of my grandpa from his morning comedy show. When my grandpa saw me drinking my cup of coffee and yawning like a lion as I came in the room, he said “its two PM and you just woke up, what did you do last night?” As soon as he said that I started laughing and I said “well now that you asked let me tell you”.
Last night my uncle, and my cousin, and I decided to go for a walk to another land that was almost two miles away. We didn’t just want to go to the other land for no reason, we had to go get the herd of bulls back to the land closest to the house. We got dressed because during the night the weather gets cold and the temperature drops really low. As we got dressed we were talking about thoughts in our minds of scary things that could happen if either one of us was scared of going out in the dark. The thing about the Serbian country side that makes it a big deal when someone walks at night is the amount of light and visibility humans can see. Basically you will not see anything because there are no street lights. Wait, there aren’t even streets, and the roads are made out of dirt and rocks.
So we left the house slowly looking behind us staring at the light coming from the house because that light will be the last light we are going to see for the next five hours. As we walked down the road, I couldn’t see anything but the sky because the stars were so bright that they lit up the dark sky. The wind was strong and the air was really cold. My uncle was telling my cousin and me about stories that happened in his life while he walked at night, and trust me those stories didn’t seem to inspire us to keep moving on into the night. He told us stories of how he had to find the sheep that were lost at night and how long it took him to find them. Not just that but also what he met along the way. My uncle told my cousin and me that the wolves and bears move around a lot in the night because the weather is nice and cool for them as they go up and down the hills.
As we kept walking, it felt like every step I took it would seem to get darker and darker, colder and colder, scarier and scarier. The only thing that kept us moving was the fear of being left alone in the dark woods. After a while of walking we came to a fork in the road, and my uncle told us it would be better if we didn’t go either of the ways shown and instead take a shortcut through the woods instead of walking on the road. We told him that its gets pitch black in the woods. How would we be able to walk if we can’t even see our own finger in front of our face? He told us to not worry and just stay close behind him because he memorized every path in this part of the country. We told him alright but if something comes out of the woods, it might be the end of us.
Every step we made created a noise that disturbed both my cousin and me giving at the sense that something was following us. All we could hear is the cracking of twigs and the crushing of leaves, not to mention the howling wind blowing against our backs. We kept on walking and then soon came to a stop. My uncle told us that he heard something following us ever since we set foot into the shortcut. So we stood quietly, listening to every sound that was made to determine where the thing that was following us was. I stood there thinking you know that is the end so I might as well do something crazy before I die. I decided to go up to my cousin and punch him in the face for all the problems he caused me last summer because of the party he threw at my house. But before I could reach my cousin there was a cracking noise of bushes rustling and twigs breaking as if something was running straight towards us. Then out of the bushes I saw the creature that has been making my night last night a living nightmare.
My dog Rex came out of the bushes with his chain dangling behind him because he broke it off from his dog house. Rex was so eager to come with us and he always loved walking around at night with us that he decided to break the chain off from his house and follow us. After we realized it was Rex my uncle was laughing telling us that we should have seen the expression on our face when he came out of the bushes, as if we saw a wolf.

That is a very scary story, I am always afraid of the dark and if I am walking in the dark I always look around me for something weird
